Jesse Brown was born in the family home in Calera. He graduated Calera High School and went to work as a mechanic. He joined the Navy Reserve for four years then enlisted in the 45th Division of the Okla. National Guard. He retired with 42 yrs., 9 mos. and 2 days military service. He was a full time National Guard employee. He spent his off time as a Durant Police Reserve Officer from 1959 to 1978. Upon his military retirement he worked for ten years at Southeastern Okla. State University as a Police Officer. He acquired bladder cancer and other medical problems almost overnight. He died at his home in the Silo Community with his wife of 58 years, Wilma Jean Armstrong Brown next to him. He is survived by one sister, Evelyn Nickerson, one son, one daughter, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clell and Elsie Brown, two brothers, Floyd Clayton and David Lee, one sister, Ruby Wilson and one grand daughter, Stormie Horizon Brown. The Ft. Sill U.S. Army Honor Guard handled the military service, he was buried with Full Military Honors, as was his granddaughter, Stormie Horizon Brown.
