Herman E. Stronks, son of John and Grace Stronks was born February 9, 1854 in Oostburg, Wisconsin, and passed away Saturday, March 9 at the Samaratin Hospital in Sheldon having reached the age of 92 years and 1 month. Death was due to infirmities or old age.

Mr. Stronks attended Hope College at Holland, Michigan and lived at Oostburg, Cedar Grove and Baldwin, Wisconsin and Alton, Iowa prior to coming to Sheldon. He was employed at Starrett Bros. for 22 years, and a resident of Sheldon for over fifty years. He served as a custodian of the Congregational Church for many years.

In 1881 he was married to Minnie Snitseler. Six children were born to this union: Mrs. Grace Scholten of Holland, Michigan, James E. Stronks of Iowa City, Bernard of Sioux City, Mrs. Anna Jansen of Alton and Ethel of Sheldon and a daughter (Laura) Mrs. James Kimmel, who passed away March 9, 1939. His wife passed away Nov 7, 1889.

In 1893 he was married to Jennie Legters who died May 14, 1941.

He is survived by his children, a sister, Mrs. Henry Meengs of Cedar Grove, Wisconsin, twelve grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Monday March 11 at the Temple Mortuary, with Rev. Thos A. Lutman in charge. Music was furnished by Ben Reagen, Melvin Ver Steeg and Pierre Landman accompanied by Edith Ling.

Pall bearers were R.L. Starrett, Lester Landhuis, Emil Schultz, John Engelhardt, Wm. Duistermars and Dr. W.H. Hurst.

Interment was made in East Lawn cemetery.

Relatives and friends attending the funeral from out-of-town were Mrs. and Mrs. Beltman, Mrs. Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Kooreman, Mr and Mrs. Richard Cambier and daughter Virginia, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Fennema, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Lubbers and Mrs. Jennie Stronks, all of Alton; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Scholten of Orange City, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Robertson and son of Harris and Mr. Chas. Dyke of Orange City, and Mrs. Edward Stronks of Baldwin, Wisconsin.

All of Mr. Stronks children were present except Mrs. Grace Scholten of Holland, Michigan.
