Our beloved wife, mother and sister and friend, Nobuko Fukushima, 81, left us too soon after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
She was born July 12, 1926 in Venice, California to Hiroji and Sumiye Okumura. Married Taira Fukushima on July 1, 1949. Rarely separated, they shared 58 wonderful years together. She was an accomplished homemaker who welcomed everyone into her home. She was a terrific cook and baker and was especially known for her chocolate chip cookies and banana nut bread. "Nobie" enjoyed Ikebana (Japanese flower arranging), playing the piano and traveling with her beloved husband. She was a constant source of encouragement and support without being intrusive in everyday life.
She is survived by her husband, son Steven (Susan Ansell), brothers Yuji, Saburo (Marilyn), Hachiro (JoAnne) and Dennis (Connie), sisters Ayako, Fusako (Kiyo) and Tetsuko, sisters-in-law Makiye and Reiko and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents, daughter Beverly, brother Ichiro, brothers-in-law Jack Aramaki and Kazuo Kamoto and sister-in-law Kiyo.
Services will be held Thursday, November 15, 1 p.m. at Deseret Mortuary, 36 East 700 South. There will be a visitation Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and noon to 12:45 prior to the service. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetary. Because of Nobie's love of flowers, in lieu of floral gifts, please plant a perennial in her honor and perform an act of kindness as she always did.
