GEORGE LYLE RAPER
George Lyle Raper, son of Joseph C. and Eliza McCance Raper, was born in Pawnee City on May 28, 1898. He departed this life on Sunday, July 15, 1951 at the age of 53 years 1 month and 17 days. he received his education in the Pawnee City schools.
At the age of 14 he became a member of the Christian church in Pawnee City, later transferring his membership to Hinckley, Minn. After the death of his father in 1914, the family moved to the farm home west of Pawnee City. On March 17, 1918, he was united in marriage to Miss Emma faris and lived in Hinckley and Milaca, Minn., until 1923, when they returned to Pawnee City. he was employed by the C.B. & Q. railroad for a number of years.
In 1935 the family moved to Burchard and since 1938 he has done farm work near this place. He is survived by his wife, Emma, six children Lucile Ulrich of Steinauer, Bill of Burchard, Joe, Jack of U.S. Navy, Shirley Stevicks of Shubert, and Robert of the home; his mother, Mrs. J.C. Raper, of Pawnee City; one brother, Joe of Pawnee City; a sister, Mrs. Lena Anderson of Olean, N.Y.; two half-brothers, Andy of Lincoln and Charles of Seattle, Wash; a half-sister, Mrs. Etta Hare of Rockford, Ill.; eight grandchilden and many other relatives.
Funeral services were held in the Pawnee City Christian church on Thursday afternoon, July 14, with the Rev. B.F. Parnell officiating. Burial was in the Pawnee City cemetery.
Pallbearers were Oscar Wehrbein, Raymond Tegtmeier, Ellsworth Hart, M.J. Donahue, henry Bachenberg, and John Geweke. Attending from a distance were Mrs. Nora Faris and Miss Edna Faris of Minneapolis, Minn., James and Roy Bolton, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Bolton and Mrs. Blanche Tomlinson of Smith Center, Kans., Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stevicks of Shubert, Mrs. John Goldenstein of Sterling, Mrs. Margaret Roberts and Keith and Miss Phyllis Reimund of Liberty, Mrs. Bess Edgerton of Wymore and Mrs. Lavilla Hansen of Lincoln, John Rock of Beatrice.
