Alice Stewart Currie of Statesboro, Georgia, went peacefully to walk with God on November 8, 2021, which was her 88th birthday. Born to Willie Lee and Eddle Couey Stewart in rural Montgomery County, she was Alice but "Tookie" to her family. She was valedictorian of her graduating class at Mt. Vernon-Ailey High School and attended college at Brewton Parker until her marriage to Airman Third Class Joseph E. Currie on April 2, 1952. Once married, they lived at Shaw AFB, Sumter, South Carolina, until her husband was transferred to the Philippines. Then she and their firstborn lived with her parents while he was overseas. Upon his return to the States, they lived a short time in Savannah as civilians but would soon re-enlist in the USAF. She was a military wife for 23 years. Upon retirement from the military, they lived in Wichita, Kansas (his last duty station) for approximately 10 years until they moved to Statesboro where they both lived until their deaths. 

Although she sometimes worked outside the home, she was primarily a loving wife and mother. She was an incredible cook and loved cooking at Thanksgiving and Christmas. She took particular delight in her sweets – cakes, pies, divinity and fudge (with nuts and without nuts for those who didn't like nuts), bulldog bark and many other confectionaries. We loved it but always ate too many sweets during those holidays. Oh, and her biscuits – nothing could compare to them! Her other passion was her yard in which she loved working until she could no longer hold out (which was in her mid-eighties). Then she would sit in the shade and "supervise" the work being done by her son and daughter. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. "Ernest" Currie, her sisters Edith Bennett, Essie Hughes, Sadie Fountain and Jean Stewart Thigpen, and her brother Walker Lee ("Bud") Stewart.

Surviving her are her four children, Rick of Waycross, Randy (Dottie) of Douglass, Kansas, Debra (John) Francis of Statesboro and Dan (Julie) of Cumming; 10 grandchildren, Kristen, Kelley (husband Cody) Reed and Joey (wife Jessica) (parents Randy and Sherry), Kyle (wife Jamie), Cody and Caitlin (parents Debra and John Francis), Olivia, Seth and Addison (parents Dan and Julie) and Zachry (wife Brittany) (parents Rick and Kay). She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Ruth (wife of her brother Bud) of Mt. Vernon and a brother-in-law, Jerold Woods (husband of Clarice Currie) of Savannah, four great-grandchildren – Harrison and Camila Reed, Lily Currie and Evelyn Francis (with another Francis great-granddaughter on the way) and numerous nephews and nieces.

Funeral service will be graveside at Smyrna United Methodist Church Cemetery in Toombs County on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Adrian Bell officiating. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be her special nephew George "Sweet" Hughes, Karen Martin and her son Jimmy, and Bryce and Mandy Bunting. The family will receive family and guests at Uvalda Baptist Church at 12:30 p.m. 

The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the Smyrna Cemetery Fund, c/o Allison Gates, 287 Delma Burke Rd., Uvalda, GA 30473.
