She was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin W. Steele, parents, Blanche and Sam Tate, twin sister Gayle Wooten and her husband, Gene and a brother, Paul Morris Tate.
She is survived by her brother, Sam Tate and wife, Berniece, sister, Lee Ann Parker and husband, Bobby, niece, Connie Wetter and husband, David, nephew, Jim Tate and great nephews who she adored, Daniel Wetter and Fletcher Tate. Her beloved cats, Kitty, Katie and Callie. Sandra has lots of cousin, nieces and nephews and a host of wonderful friends on Sand Mountain. She enjoyed her times spent with so many of you at Bama Side and Howard's Restaurants.
Although she didn't have children, she had 3 special "sons." Billy Welden, Ken Earwood and Mark Hildreth. Billy, her best friend, her daily dining partner, the kindest soul who looked after her every day. You could find these two driving 100 miles for somewhere new to dine. Ken, her hairdresser who made hospital and rehab visits to keep her hair perfect. She always said as long as I have my Ken, I'll never be gray. She loved his free entertainment every Thursday. Mark, always so kind and considerate. The talented gardener who grew the most beautiful garden she took us to see every spring. She loved you guys so much and we are thankful she had you.
We will miss her dearly but she is set free from Diabetes. God's greatest blessing was allowing her to stay in the home she so loved until her last days. Sandra did not want a funeral so we will honor her request. Burial will be private at Chattanooga National Cemetery with committal prayer by Rev Jimmy Carl Ball. Sandra enjoyed making food baskets at Thanksgiving. If you would like to pay tribute to Sandra, please continue her tradition or a charity of your choice.
