Carl was born in Ruth, Nevada to parents Alfred and Hazel Ryan in 1935. He came from a family of miners. Carl and his older brother Alfred grew up in rural Nevada and Utah and had a love for the outdoors. They became accomplished hunters and fishermen in their youth. After the war, Carl's parents divorced and their dad, Alfred Sr., moved his boys to Live Oak to start a new life. Carl completed high school in Live Oak where he was a gifted student and accomplished athlete in both football and track. One of his friends said that he was the best athlete of his generation.
Carl married Esther McRunnels and they made their life in Live Oak. They were married for almost 50 years. Carl had two children, Carl Jr. and Tracy Fowler.
Carl became a carpenter and building contractor. He enjoyed building custom homes and built dozens of beautiful residences in the Yuba-Sutter area, Lake Wildwood, Lake Almanor and Penn Valley. He was a carpentry instructor at Yuba College. He mentored many and helped teach his son-in-law, Eric Fowler, the building trade.
Carl will be remembered for his gentleness, kindness and loving spirit. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Al Jr. and his wife Esther.
He is survived by his daughter, Tracy Fowler, and son Carl Jr., five, grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Carl will be interred at the Live Oak cemetery on Friday November 12, 2021 at 1:00 pm.
