Doris Mae (Fish) Nelson, 88, passed from this earth and awoke in the presence of Jesus her Lord and Savior on November 4, 2021.

She was born in Star City, AR on April 24, 1933 to Effie Grace (Vick) and Curtis Wayne Fish, being their 4th child. The family moved to Abilene where she graduated From Abilene High School and became a telephone operator soon after. It was there that she met Edwin Nelson on a blind date and they were later married on March 30, 1954. They celebrated 56 years of marriage before he passed away on February 26, 2011.

Doris was a joyful homemaker, raising her 4 children, while Edwin was working as a painting contractor. Traveling to countless job locations initially, they settled in Oklahoma City where they lived in the same home for nearly 43 years.

Doris was a devoted wife, wonderful mom and amazing grandma. She had few hobbies as her life was invested in her family, and surrounding herself with those she loved. Her riches were truly what matters in this life; friends, family, and walking with our Resurrected Lord daily.

She was very involved at Cherokee Hills Baptist Church for the 43 years they lived in Oklahoma City, teaching Sunday school, serving in various ministries, and working in Childcare.

The investment she made in her family and church lives on. Her joy and laughter were constant, even as her health deteriorated. She may have forgotten names and dates, but she will never be forgotten by those who love her and were influenced by her unselfish and loving spirit. There is a celebration in heaven and her family is at peace knowing resurrection awaits her.

In addition to her husband, Doris was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Cheryl Ann Fern whom she missed greatly; a granddaughter, Tierney Fern Cahoon; sister, Bettye Cable; brother, Curtis Fish, and brother, Roy Fish. Doris is survived by her children and their spouses: Debbie Winters and James, Ed Nelson and Melissa, and Kathy Brown and Curtis. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm, Tuesday, November 9th, at Council Road Baptist Church in Bethany Oklahoma.
