After high school, Larry moved to Chariton for his employment. He was a mechanic and loved working on cars so he opened his own body shop for a short time. Larry, later started working as a mechanic for Darrah's Garbage, keeping his trucks running. Five years ago, Larry had to retire and move in the Chariton Specialty Care due to his stroke and failing health conditions. He was a quiet man and liked to do things on his own. Except when a family member would ask him to go fishing.
Larry is survived by his sisters, Myrtle Briner of Derby and Juanita Wilson of Weldon, many nieces and nephews, other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Opal Shanks, brothers, Walter, Robert, Ralph L., John, Ed, Don, and Gail Shanks. On line condolences may be left at www.fieldingfuneralhome.com.
