Robert Martinez passed away peacefully on October 26, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 13, 1946 to Antonia Alcoser and Roberto Martinez in Somerset, Texas. He was preceded in death by his mother Antonia, father Roberto, step-father Fr. Walter "Mike" Mushalla, and sisters Olga Lucero, Virginia Lex and Stella Lopez. He is survived and celebrated by his beloved wife of 47 years Rebecca, daughters Carissa Martinez (Michael Rodriguez) and Christa Martinez-Broemer (Joshua), grandsons Wally and Robbie, sisters Eva Martinez and Consuelo Martinez, nephews Paul Lex and William Lex, friend and neighbor James Lynham, dear friend Fr. Alex Pereida, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Robert enlisted in the United States Navy in 1966 after graduating from Seville High School in Seville, Spain. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he worked for Gary Aircraft before beginning his career with CPS Energy where he met his wife, Becky. He retired from CPS Energy in 2002.
Robert loved the outdoors, crossword puzzles, DIY projects, and woodworking. He was well read, sharp-witted and a great thinker. He had a love of animals, especially strays, and saved many dogs and cats. If an animal was left in his care, it was going to be overfed. He could often be found outside reading the newspaper with a dog on his lap. He enjoyed good meals with good company, baked goods, a clean shave and pressed, starched shirts. He loved being Wally and Robbie's "Gump" and spoiled them despite their parents wishes.
Robert gave generously to charities and was a firm believer in doing the right thing and treating others with kindness. He detested littering and was not a fan of in-person jobs becoming automated, particularly customer service positions if it meant he had to interact with a machine instead of a human. He strongly believed in buying "made in America" and encouraged everyone around him to do so, if nothing else at least when they were buying gifts for him.
Robert had a sharp sense of humor and was a master of dry sarcasm which served him well growing up with five sisters and going on to have two daughters of his own. He was a consummate gentleman, always held the door, and was a perfect example of quiet dignity, strength, respect, and intelligence. He was the perfect girl dad.
Robert's family would like to extend a special, heartfelt thank you to Dr. Roque Diaz-Wong for his superior medical care and friendship which literally added precious years to Robert's life. A sincere thank you also goes out to the dedicated nursing and housekeeping staff at Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital for the care and attention they provided not only to Robert but also to his devoted wife and family who were never far from his side. Lastly, thank you to the staff and nurses of Encompass Home Health and Hospice for their expert care and comforting support and thank you to Fr. Jim Kotara for his support and faithful guidance.

Dixon St., Somerset, Texas 78069 with interment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
