Mary Magdalene (Sayers) Potter, age 93 of State College and formerly of Karthaus, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at Embassy of Hearthside, State College.
Born February 17, 1928 in Frenchville, she was the daughter of the late John and Erma (Scherzer) Sayers.
She wed Roger Clayton Potter who preceded her in death.
Surviving is her son, Tracey Jay and wife Jodie and their children, Manna, Tracey Jay, Jr., Corban Jed; her daughter, Lori Potter; her dog, Emma; four cats; her brother, Claude Allen Sayers, Philipsburg and many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son; Roger Allen; her siblings, Eleanor (Buddy) Redenbach, Helen Muthersbaugh, Ursula Sayers, Mildred Sayers, Loretta Jean Sayers, Theresa Billotte, Donald Sayers, James Sayers, Fred Sayers, John Sayers, and two additional infants.
Mary was a 1946 graduate of Clearfield High School. She was a life member of Karthaus Volunteer Fire Company, Karthaus and was a preschool teacher for seventeen years for the Shephard of the Hills Lutheran Church, Karthaus. She was a Covid survivor. She was noted for her beautiful decorated cakes and maker of homemade wine. She enjoyed going to dirt bike races with grandsons and loved hearing stories about her granddaughter running cross country. She was an excellent cook and baker and she will be remembered for her quick wit. She was a great artist having taken private lessons for years from well known artist, Ruth Kempner. She had a deep love of animals and the outdoors and enjoyed hunting rattlesnakes for the rattles and releasing them back into the wild.
There will be no public visitation.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to, Mya's Fund (Canine Cancer Research), 739 East Nields Street, West Chester, PA 19382; Karthaus Fire Company, 10 Hurxthal Street, Karthaus, PA 16845 or Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 3637 Main Street, Karthaus, PA 16845.
