DEATH OF CAPTAIN G.S. MARTS

Victim of the Dread Disease Pneumonia

ILL ONLY A SHORT TIME

Well Known and Substantial Citizen of Cumberland Co.

Captain George S. Marts died at his home in Dividing Creek yesterday morning, after an illness of several days. His death was caused by pneumonia.

Captain Marts was one of the well-known and substantial citizens of the lower part of the county. He has had charge of several sea going vessels, being a thorough waterman, though having lived some of the time upon his farm. Some years ago he gave up the sea and has since lived a retired life.

The deceased was born in Dividing Creek and has claimed the village as his home ever since. He served upon the County Board of Freeholders for several years.

THE BEST OF HEALTH

The Captain has enjoyed the best of health, having had an unusually hardy constitution. His last illness was not a long one, however, his vitality being quickly undermined by the dred Winter disease pneumonia. He was 78 years old.

On October 20, 1903, Captain and Mrs. Marts celebrated their Golden Wedding, a large number of relatives and friends being present. Mrs. Marts is left to mourn his loss and with her seven children. The daughters are Mrs. Beriah Loper and Mrs. W.W. Cosier, of Dividing Creek; Mrs. A.J. Ogden, Cedarville; Mrs. W.C. Cook, Mt. Holly, and Miss Gertrude Marts, who is still at the home in Dividing Creek. The sons are Prof. Warren Marts, principal of South Jersey Institute, and Olin Marts, now of Camden.

Captain Samuel Marts, of Baltimore, who died in Philadelphia but a few days ago, was his brother.

The funeral takes place on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The services are from his late residence, and the interment will take place in the cemetery of the Baptist Church.
