Obituary, published in "The Daily Times" (Salisbury, MD) on Tues., March 17, 2009:

"SALISBURY ― Naomi Abbott Parker Hancock of Salisbury passed away peacefully into the Kingdom of Heaven on Monday, March 16, 2009, at Costal Hospice at the Lake. She was surrounded and comforted by her adoring family.

Naomi was born March 8, 1920, in Deal Island, to the late Maurice and Karen Abbott.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Russell Parker; her elder brother, Oscar Abbott and wife, Frances; her younger sister, Lucille Bounds; a niece, Priscilla Abbott; and two nephews, Gerald Walters and Ray Abbott.

In her early years, she was a homemaker and a dedicated stay-at-home mother. After the death of her first husband, Naomi pursued her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. At the age of 8, she attended Shore Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Nassawadox, where she received her certification as a licensed practical nurse. Her natural inclination as a caretaker was recognized by being honored as the outstanding graduate. She began her nursing career at Salisbury Nursing Home.

She is most beloved and survived by her husband of 37 years, Lawrence "Pee Wee" Hancock; a son; daughter and son-in-law; step-daughter & step-son-in-law. Mrs. Hancock is also survived by her three grandchildren, as well as two step-grandchildren. Naomi also leaves behind a brother; three sisters; and a sister-in-law. Other survivors include 11 nieces and nephews and numerous great-grandchildren.

Naomi was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who partnered with her husband's business ventures. She was actively involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Hancock will be greatly missed by her many friends and her extended family at Bethesda United Methodist Church. Her kindness, sense of humor, generosity, and unending love will always be remembered and admired.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude for the tender care and compassion shown by the staffs of PRMC and Costal Hospice at the Lake during Mrs. Hancock's illness.

Condolences may be expressed through memorial donations at Costal Hospice at the Lake, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, Md., 21802.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Holloway Funeral home in Salisbury. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. A viewing will also be held on Wednesday evening from 6 - 7:30 p.m.. Interment will be in Wicomico Memorial Park.

No love, no friendship can cross the path of our destiny without leaving some mark on it forever.
