An arrest has been made in the Dec. 2 shooting death of a Wilkesboro man.

Steven Craig Miller, 34, has been charged in connection of the murder of Terry Tyrone Carlton.

Carlton, 34, was gunned down on the front porch of his home in Westwood Hills.

Miller was arrested in Winston-Salem the afternoon of Jan. 5. A warrant had been issued for him earlier that day.

"Miller had been a suspect from the start," said Wilkesboro Police Chief Gary Parsons. "We knew he was in Winston-Salem. There was no trouble finding him."

Miller was also charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree kidnapping, assault by pointing a gun and damage to property in connection with an Aug. 19 incident at the home of Joseph Brown on Red White and Blue Road in Roaring River, said Steve Cabe of the Wilkes County Sheriff's Department.

In that incident, Brown's home was broken into and he was forced to lay on the floor while the man went through the residence.

Wilkesboro and Winston-Salem police, assisted by State Bureau of Investigation agents made the arrest, according to reports. Miller did not resist.

No murder weapons had been located as of Tuesday morning, Parsons said. He said it was unclear what caliber weapon was used, but offered, "I'm sure it was a handgun."

In the meantime, Wilkes Sheriff's Deputies continue to investigate the murder of Calvin Ray Hollifield, 52. Hollifield was found shot to death at his Griffin Lane home near the Wilbar community late the night of Oct 18.

No arrest had been made as of Tuesday.

A neighbor found Hollifield dead in his home on Oct. 18. The neighbor, Dallas Cardwell, 46, reportedly committed suicide on Nov. 4.

About the Hollifield murder, Cabe said investigators continue to wait on evidence in the SBI Crime Lab in Raleigh.

Sheriff's deputies have disclosed little about the Hollifield murder.

No motive has been stated in the killing.
