Obituary - Nora Mathews, a librarian, teacher, dies.
Nora D Worman Mathews, 93, Roosevelt, Utah died of natural causes, February 21 1974 in the Roosevelt Hospital.
Mrs. Mathews was born September 9, 1880 in DeWitt, Carroll, Missouri, to Thomas B and Martha Clement Workman. She spent her childhood, received her education and taught school in Missouri for seven years. Because of ill health and upon her doctor's advice, she moved to Utah in 1912 where the climate would prove better for her health.
Her first teaching job in Utah was in he Uintah Basin, in what is known as Crescent, Duchesne County. Here she taught in a log cabin. In 1913 the Crescent School was closed and she moved to Roosevelt to continue her teaching.
After teaching for three years she married James Mathews, December 30, 1916, and at the same time took on the duties of librarian in the newly opened city library. Her husband died in 1933.
Mrs. Mathews taught a total of 38 years and spent 50 years working in the library. She retired in 1966.
Besides her educational and library work, Mrs. Mathews was a member of the Episcopal Church. and also the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her nephew, niece, Thomas E Cox, Mrs. Ann Martha Anderson, both of Kansas City, Missouri.
Funeral was held in the Olpin Mortuary. Burial was in the Roosevelt City Cemetery.
