George, a blacksmith, murdered his wife, Margaret Gibson, nee Howe, on 21 June 1863 at their residence at 55 Circus Street, Liverpool, while in a drunken state. They had two children, Mary Ellen (Born: 23 March 1857) and William Charles (Born: 1 February 1860). He was convicted of manslaughter on 8 August 1863 at the Liverpool Assises and sentenced to transportation for life on 2 October 1863 at Kirkdale County Goal. He was imprisoned at the Chatham Prison, St Mary's Island, Chatham, Kent, England.

George was transported aboard the convict ship Rasehorse on 8 May 1865 and arrived at Fremantle, Western Australia, on 10 August 1865, as Convict no. 8276. He was amongst several convicts sent to Albany to repair bridges and buildings.

George was convicted on several occasions for drunkenness in 1867 while in Albany.

George died at the Convict Depot Hospital (now part of the Albany Convict Gaol Museum) from natural causes and was buried 10 December 1868.
