Roy was born April 2, 1931, in Norwalk, IA, the son of Ronald and Arvitta Payne. He graduated from Tech High School in Des Moines in 1949. He was a Korean War veteran in the US Army, Armed Forces, Infantry Division. Roy worked in sales for Electrical Engineering & Equipment Company (3E) for 48 years and retired in 1997. He loved spending time on his farm near Bevington, IA, especially during deer hunting season. He also enjoyed square dancing with Plaids and Dads Square Dance Club and helping family and friends as a handyman on any project. His devotion to his family and friends was matched only by his sense of humor.
Roy is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sharleen (Ferger); his daughter Joyce Baker of Goldsboro, NC and son Jeffrey and wife Doris of Urbandale, IA; five grandchildren, Lindsey Lamont, Nichole Baker, Jacob Baker, Joseph Payne, and Nicholas Payne; three great-grandchildren, Sean Baker, Jack, and Harper Lamont; sister, Dorothy Payne of Beaumont, CA and sister-in-law Thoreen Westadt of Wisconsin.
