Mrs. Malinda Martin
Mrs. Malinda J. Martin, a resident of the Atlanta community since 1870, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Vinnie Moss, Wednesday at 11:30 p. m. Mrs. Martin had been in failing health since the death of her son, Leroy Martin, who made the supreme sacrifice in France during the World War and for the last several months she had been in a serious condition. Malinda J. Wilson was a daughter of the late Willis Wilson and was born in Washington, Ind., March 12, 1853. She came to Cowley county at the age of 16. In 1871, she was married to S. W. Martin at Atlanta. Mr. Martin died in 1910. She leaves four sons, and two daughters, Willis Martin of Lawrence, formerly [sic] of Winfield; G. O. Martin, Ernest Martin, Alva Martin, Mrs. Carrie Dudeck and Mrs. Vinnie Moss of Atlanta. A large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren survive including, Leroy and Ethel Martin, twin daughters of Leroy Martin, her soldier son and who were left orphans soon after their birth. They live with the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Beach in Burden. Four brothers and three sisters survive. They are Henry, Ben, and James Wilson of Winfield, Mrs. Ollie Torbet of Atlanta, Mrs. Charles Clingensmith of Bristow, Okla., and Mrs Mary Miller of Rector, Ark. Mrs. Martin was a member of the Church of God for many years and lived a faithful and conscientious Christian life. She was a devoted mother and kind neighbor. The funeral was held from the Methodist Episcopal church in Atlanta Friday afternoon at two o'clock. Interment was made in the Atlanta cemetery.
