Mr. Hayes was born in Wilkes County, October 22, 1941, to James Roy and Anna Mae Bare Hayes. He owned and operated Hayes Trucking.
Mr. Hayes is survived by his wife, Georgia Eller Hayes of the home; two daughters, Cheri H. Clinard of Southport and Deanna H. Wilkinson of Lincolnton; one step daughter, Rebecca Vickers Foster of Hays; one son, David Michael Hayes of Moravian Falls; two step sons, Greg Wayne Vickers of Springdale, AR and Kevin Scot Vickers of Fayetteville, AR; two sisters, Mary H. Shell of Wilkesboro and Trish H. Sandoval of Duluth, GA; two brothers, Jimmy Lee Hayes of Sunset Harbor, NC and Edison Hayes of North Wilkesboro; 13 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren.
