Anna Louise (Schick) Ballard, 96, she died on Dec. 3, 2007, at the Douglas Care Center.

She was born Dec. 31, 1910, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph Schick and Rosina (Federer) Schick Walton. The family moved to Cheyenne then Casper and subsequently homesteaded near Bill. She graduated from Converse County High School in 1928. Upon graduation, she attended UCLA and BYU, graduating from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Science degree. She received a Masters in Social Welfare from the University of Missouri.

She taught country schools in Converse County. She married Melvin Arthur Ballard on June 1, 1937, in Fort Collins, Colorado. She was the Director of Social Welfare of Converse County from 1943 until her retirement. After retirement, she worked for the Mental Health Center.

She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Wyoming Pioneer Association, and Zonta International. She enjoyed cards, Scrabble, painting, crocheting, and gardening. She loved her Christmas Club, Ions, and the Jolly Thirteen.

She is survived by daughters, Sharon Willford of Douglas and Linda and husband of Moran; brother, Ted Walton of Cheyenne; grandchildren, Wade Willford and wife of Saint James City, Fla., Wendy Willford Beattie and husband of Chappell, Neb., and Sherri Willford Maurer and husband of Fresno, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Mark Beattie and Nick and Hillary Maurer, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Elisabeth Rose Ballard, Helen M. Hanlin, and Grace Lucille Williams, and brother, Paul Walton.

Interment will be at the Douglas Park Cemetery.
