Hasib Mujkanović was born on August 6, 1917 in Zenica, Bosnia, a city of about 115,000 residents whose economy relies on the production of steel.

After graduating from high school, Hasib worked as an electrical engineer in a local steel mill. Later, he married Šuhra Husika in Zenica and the couple raised three children together.
