Daniel E. Drake, 82, of 60 Garboard St.,Jamestown, who worked at the Ladd School in Exeter in the transportation and maintenance department until retiring in 1972, died Monday at home. He was the husband of the late Beverly (Bullock) Houston- Drake , and the late Edna Sprague- Drake .

Born in Foxboro, Mass., a son of the late Edward D. and Mary (Wilber) Drake , he lived in Jamestown for 35 years.

Mr. Drake was previously employed for United Electric Railway, now known as Rhode Island Public Transit Authority, as a bus driver for 20 years.He was active in the Exeter and Ladd School Volunteer Fire Departments until retiring.

He served in the Army in the Panama Canal Zone from 1930-1936, and had served with the Anti-Chemical Warfare Corps at Quonset Point during World War II.

He leaves two sons, Ronald E. and Daniel T. Drake , both of Warwick; four daughters, Dorothy A. Smith of Warwick, Judy D. Hoffman of Sparta, Wisc., Shirley D. Muskilok of Johnston, and Rev. Joanne J. Drake of Providence; three stepdaughters, Sandra S. Songdahl of Oxford, Mass., Beverly-Ann H. Russell of Bryon, Texas, and Christine H. Dickens of Augusta, Maine; a step-son, Alexander Houston of South Kingstown ; 25 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was the stepfather of the late Gail Sprague Thompson, and the brother of the late Harold G. Drake and Jessica Drake Radford.

The funeral was held on April 18th in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. Burial was in New Fernwood Cemetery, Kingston.
