Joe Everett Brown, 83, of 162 Petty Drive, Gaffney, S.C. went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Blacksburg, S.C. he was the husband of the late Louise Martin Brown and son of the late James Everett Brown and Mary Hope Caldwell Brown.
He worked at Overnite and retired from UPS, a U. S. Marine Corps Veteran, and a member of Southside Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher, formerly served as a deacon, and served in many other capacities. Joe was a Chaplain with the City of Gaffney Fire Department and taught Sunday School lessons for the firemen, a member of the Marine Corps League and Broad River Leathernecks Detachment.
He is survived by a daughter, Libby Brown Tate (Donnie) of Gaffney; a step-granddaughter, Neely Tate Lashford (Thomas) of Simpsonville, S.C.; a step great-grandchild, Lottie Lashford; a special niece, Kelly Brown of Boiling Springs, S.C.; numerous other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William L. Brown and a sister-in-law, Karen Brown.
Graveside services, with military honors, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 24, 2021 in Frederick Memorial Gardens with Dr. Wofford Caughman officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside. Social distancing and masks are requested.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Southside Baptist Church, "Capital Improvement Fund", 204 W. O'Neal Street, Gaffney, S.C. 29340 or Christopher Fowlkes Scholarship Fund, c/o Marine Corps League, P.O. Box 667, Gaffney, S.C. 29342.
