Edward Charles Cook, retired US Navy Veteran, passed away Friday, September 17, 2021 at Dougherty Hospice in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Ed was 77.

Edward was born on October 17, 1943, the second of three children to Charles and Angeline (Hirschfield) Cook in Denver, Colorado. Ed was the second of three, son of a career military father, and moved around often as a child. He attended Del Rio High School in Del Rio Texas through his junior year, then moved to Denver to graduate from East High in 1961.

Following graduation, Ed enlisted in the United States Navy on January 21, 1962. Ed met the love of his life while being stationed at Moffet Field California and was lucky enough to have her consent to being his wife. On April 6, 1968, Edward was united in marriage to Carole Cattaneo at Wedding Bells Chapel in San Diego, California. The couple were blessed with three wonderful children, Eric Anthony, Patricia Helen and Loren Douglas.

Ed retired from the Navy after serving a full thirty years of service before settling down in Boise Idaho in 1992. Following his retirement from the Navy, Ed worked with Carole as Managers of Republic Storage for approximately fifteen years. The couple decided to move to Houghton, South Dakota, build a home and retire. Unfortunately, the home never came to be due to terrible weather conditions which resulted in moving to Sioux Falls, South Dakota where they did buy a home to enjoy their twilight years together.

Riding his Harley, hunting, fishing, trap/skeet shooting, and all other forms of outdoors activities were a few of Ed's favorite hobbies. However, his greatest passion was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 53 years, Carole Cook of Sioux Falls; children, Eric (Julie) Cook of Modesto, CA, Patricia (Thomas) Loughran of Meridian, ID and Loren Cook of Escondio, CA; 7 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Allen Cook of Dover, DE; and brother-in-law, Frank DeSantis of Dover, DE.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Angeline Cook; and sister, Ginny DeSantis.

In lieu of flowers, family suggest memorials/donations may be sent to Wounded Warrior Project or to a charity of your choice.

Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 am on Friday, October 15, 2021 at St. Lambert Catholic Parish, 1000 S. Bahnson Ave., Sioux Falls. Inurnment will take place at Veterans Cemetery in Boise, Idaho.
