Services for Leland M. Curtis, 79, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Roosevelt. Burials will be at the Roosevelt Cemetery under the direction Hackney-Gish Funeral Home of Hobart.

He was born in Waynoka to Harry and Lynna (Simpson) Curtis, Sept. 18, 1921. He enrolled in Fire Technical School at Oklahoma A&M College at Stillwater and lived in the campus fire station. He was drafted July 27, 1942 and spent four years in the Army Air Corps Air Transport Command.

He married Mildred Hagemeier at Roosevelt in December, 1942. One son, Kenneth was born to them while lived in Washington D.C. Ken passed away in January of 1997. After World War II he returned to Roosevelt and worked with his father-in-law in business and farming. In 1956, he was hired with Trans World Airlines when they opened up in Oklahoma City. He worked at the Will Rogers Airport until his retirement in 1977. After retiring from TWA, he worked for Hertz Worldwide Reservation Center in Oklahoma City.

After their son's death, they moved to Weatherford to watch their two grandsons play football for the Southwestern State University Bulldogs. Due to failing health they moved to Altus to be closer to their oldest grandson. They are former members of the First Baptist Church of Roosevelt and since 1956 have been members of the Putnam City Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. He belonged to the Masonic Fraternity and was a member of the Hobart Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred of the home; two grandsons, Landon Curtis and wife Amber of Altus and Brooks Curtis of Weatherford; a great-grandson, Blake Curtis of Altus and a brother, Homer Curtis and wife, Lois, of Stillwater. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and his only son, Kenneth.
