Ruth Elaine Greenawalt Wehrly was called to Heaven on Thursday September 16, 2021 in Galveston, Texas.

Ruth was born in Bay City, Texas to Jack & Maudis Greenawalt on March 16, 1937. The family moved to Angleton when she was 10 years old. Ruth graduated from Angleton High School and attended college at Southwest Texas State University. She taught school in Angleton for 2 years before marrying her childhood sweetheart, Gerald Wehrly, in 1958. Gerald had gone into the Air Force pilot training school earlier, and Ruth followed. After receiving their first assignment in Lincoln Nebraska, Ruth finished college and had two children, Tami and Rustin (Rusty). The Vietnam conflict placed a hold on things for about 4 years and in the following 20 years they were reassigned many times nationwide.

Upon retirement from active duty in 1979 the family moved from their final assignment in Maine back to Lake Jackson where Ruth taught for another 18 years. Following her final retirement in 1997 Ruth and her husband moved to the Hill Country where they RV'ed and toured the world for many years. After much traveling and many cruises, they moved back to Angleton in 2010. Ruth became very active in the Angleton First United Methodist Church where she spent much of her time working on various projects with friends. Ruth's favorite hobbies included camping, fossil hunting and reading. She spent many happy hours enjoying these activities with her family. Preceding Ruth in death was her husband of 56 years, Gerald Wehrly; daughter Tami Elaine; parents Jack and Maudis Greenawalt and lifelong friend Billye Jo Jackson Surber.

Surviving family members include son Rustin Wehrly; sisters Patricia Greenawalt Stone, Marie Greenawalt Hill and Dollie her faithful Scottie Dog. In addition, there are numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, as well as other family members. Services will be held at the Angleton Cemetery Pavilion presided by Pastor Bonnie Cowing of the First United Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday September 22, 2021.
