He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Bob Freeman and Donald Freeman of Gastonia, North Carolina and his sister Ruth Ann "Martie" Freeman Harris of Blacksburg, South Carolina.
He is survived by his brother Ray L. Freeman and his wife Darlene Freeman of Deer Park, Texas, sons Larry Dale Freeman Jr. and his wife Laura M. Freeman of Athens, Georgia, Robert James Freeman and his wife Tommie Kay Freeman of Carrollton, Georgia.
His grandchildren are Alex M. Freeman of Athens, Georgia and Maxwell Logan Freeman and his wife Brandy Lee Freeman of Temple, Georgia.
His great grandchildren are Ayla Jane Freeman, Wyatt Stone Freeman, Mason Davis Freeman, Riley Ray Freeman, Emilia June Freeman, Luke Garrett Freeman, and Brayden Burnes.
He served 20 years in the United States Air Force 1951 to 1971 during which time he served 1 year in Korat, Thailand during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the United States Air Force Commendation Medal two times and the United States Air Force Good Conduct Medal five times during his service career. He was a member of The Northeast Georgia Planning and Development Committee, The State of Georgia Governors Criminal Justice Advisory Committee and the Georgia Peace Officers Association. He served on the Board of Directors for Palm House Recovery Center Athens, Georgia.
He served as a Deputy for the Clarke County Sheriff's Department 1971 – 1974 Athens, Georgia.
He was the Warden at Jackson County Correctional Institute 1975 – 1980 Jefferson, Georgia.
He also served as the Chief Jailer at Oconee County Jail in Watkinsville, Georgia for a few years before retiring from Law Enforcement.
After retiring from Law Enforcement, he started a home based business as a skilled jeweler doing jewelry and watch repair and serving jewelry stores in the Athens area as well as personal customers at his home.
Larry loved life, music and was an avid Georgia Bulldog Fan!
