[p 7] State of Texas County of Harrison}

State of Texas County of Harrison} On this 2nd day of October A.D. 1856 personally appeared before me O. Hendrick Chief Justice of the County Court of Harrison County and State of Texas Sarah Whitlow a resident of said County of Harrison aged 88 years who being duly sworn according to law doth on her oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the Act of
Congress passed ___ That she was married to Richard Pollard Captain in the South Carolina Volunteer Company. He enlisted or volunteered according to the best of her knowledge and belief as a private in the District of Abbeville South Carolina near Ninety Six the place of public business of said District that shortly after enlisting he was raised to the rank of Captain. That he served under Major Sam Taylor that he enlisted on the __ day of __ A.D. __. That he was in the battle of Savannah and was in the battle at Charlestown -- was taken prisoner at Charleston along with Major Sam Taylor[Samuel Taylor] and Aron Smith was taken to Hawthorn's point [sic, Haddrell's Point?] and confined on the Island was kept until peace was made or the close of the
war does not know which. Says that she has no documentary evidence in support of the claim. She declares that she was married to said Richard Pollard on the 19th day of December A.D. 1786 by a Justice of the peace of [sic, at?] the home of William Moore in the said District of Abbeville SC -- that they lived together in matrimony 17 years and that her husband the said Richard Pollard died on the __ day of December A.D. 1803 that she was not married to him prior to his leaving the service, but the marriage took place previous to the 2nd of January 1800 viz. --at the time above stated. That she afterwards to wit on the __ day of September A.D. 1809 married Samuel Whitlow who died on the __ day of October, A.D. 1817. She further swears since which time she has remained a widow and is now a widow, and that she has never before made any application for a pension -- and she does by these presents irrevocably constitute and
appoint Wm H. Bristow of Marshall in the County of Harrison and State of Texas her true and lawful Attorney to prosecute the aforesaid claim and receive for the benefit of this deponent upon this or supplementary applications any some or sums of money to which she may be entitled, wherever the same may issued. Sworn to and subscribed on the day and year above written before me. Signed/ Sary Whitlow

[p 11] finding dated February 28 1828 in the Abbeville District South Carolina Ordinary's Office that Richard Pollard is the son and one of the heirs at law of Richard Pollard deceased late a soldier in the Regiment of __.]

[p 37] Spencer Wadlington gave testimony in Harrison County Texas that he knew Captain Richard Pollard and his wife Sarah Pollard as man and wife while they lived in Abbeville district South Carolina; that they had 4 or 5 children; and that Sarah Whitlow is the same person he knew as Mrs. Sarah Pollard wife of Captain Richard Pollard.]
