Mr. Lonnie Ashley Smith, 68, of Swainsboro passed away Thursday, September 9, 2021, at Emanuel Medical Center due to complications from Covid.

Mr. Smith was born October 23, 1952, in Swainsboro to the late Robert Lee Smith, Sr. and Winifred White Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert Lee Smith, Jr., Harrison Smith; sister, Kathryn Riner. Lonnie was a hell of a fellow. You didn't find any better. He loved the outdoors, junk plundering, listening to dogs run, and riding his grandbabies on the cart. He was an opinionated, stubborn, simple man, who would help anyone and expect nothing in return. He was always the same and never put on any airs for anyone. He could often be found tinkering on a piece of equipment. He was strong in his faith and said during his Covid fight – "The Best Is Yet To Come!"

Survivors include: his wife Wanda Smith of Swainsboro; son, Kyle Smith (Samantha Martinez) of Swainsboro; daughter, Ashley Brett (Dan) of Wadley; sisters, Carolyn Faye Sweat (George) of Goose Creek, SC, Lerah Jane Smith of Swainsboro; grandchildren, Easton Brett, Morgan Smith, Shawn Martinez; chosen brother, Gregg Oglesby of Twin City; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
