Sharon Marlene Smith, 69, of Minong died at her home with her family by her side on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017.

Sharon was born on July 22, 1947, to Russell and Loretta (Denninger) Coons in Rice Lake.

She married Harold "Smokey" Smith on December 4, 1965, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Minong.

Her family always came first for Sharon. Her husband, her children, and her grandchildren were her life. She loved going out to her lake lot in the summers to spend time at her little house. She enjoyed riding on the pontoon and fishing with her husband and family at the lake, along with going on ATV rides.

She always enjoyed adding to her collection of birds in the house along with making sure her birds were fed daily outside so she could watch them every day. Sharon was a devoted housewife and when she had time she enjoyed cross-stitching, crossword puzzles, and reading.

Sharon was an avid Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers fan and made sure she watched them every week.

Sharon provided community support with the fire department and the ambulance for many years. She was the president of the Minong Fire Department Auxiliary. Sharon was "mother" to every member of the department as she was always there for the support of all of these volunteers. She was always a behind-the-scenes person. Sharon was also a Girl Scouts leader and a Cub Scouts leader for the children in the area.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Smokey; her children, Todd (Debbie) Smith and Tracey (Bob) Tyman; her grandchildren, Tyler Smith, Cole Tyman, Qwynn Tyman, and Tessah Tyman; her siblings Shirley Fye and Lee (Eileen) Coons; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Sophie.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9, with a brief service at 7 p.m. at the Minong Village Hall in Minong.

Interment at Greenwood Cemetery will be in the spring.

In lieu of flowers or monetary gifts, Smokey and the family would appreciate donations to Regional Hospice–Hayward in Sharon's name.

Spooner Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be shared at bratley-nelsonchapels.com.
