Benny L. Oley

September 8, 1930 – August 19, 2021

Benny Louis Oley, age 90 of Monroe, passed away peacefully with his loved one by his side on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at his home under hospice care.

Born September 8, 1930 in Dundee, Mi. He was one of nine children born from the union of the late Joseph Oley and the late Jennie (Jensesky) Oley. Raised on a farm, he was brought up to appreciate the simple things in life and to work hard for what he had.

Benny proudly served his country in the United States Army from August 9, 1951 until August 9, 1953. He also served eight additional years in the US Army Reserves reaching Corporal.

He met and married Glenda Corns on January 19, 1952 while he was in the service. They had two sons: David and Keith. Sadly, Glenda passed away on September 5, 1979. In 1984, Benny married Colleen Radner but sadly she also passed away in 1993.

Benny worked at Consolidated Paper Company for 30 years, 15 of which he spent as a Supervisor. In 1979 he worked at the Jefferson Smurfit Corporation as a Supervisor until his retirement in 1989.

Benny loved tending to his garden, often giving away his vegetables to family and friends. He always looked forward to going to his cabin in Roscommon to relax, hunt, fish, and trying his luck at the casinos.

Benny was a kind, hard working, and dedicated man who will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. He always left you with a joke or two to make you laugh.

In addition to his parents, Benny is preceded in death by his two wives: Glenda and Colleen; brothers: Jim, Ray, Richard, and David Oley; sisters: Viola Baloa, Margaret Hedy, and Theresa Benore; and nephew: Edward Oley.

To cherish his memory he leaves behind his loving companion and best friend of 24 years: Andrea Gorman; his two sons: David Oley of Milan and Keith Oley of Carson City, Arizona; his grandchildren: John, Michael, and Kaylan Oley. He is also survived by many family members and friends. (Monroe Front Street Diner Coffee Club)

The family would especially like to extend their gratitude for the wonderful care and support from the ProMedica Hospice Care, especially nurse John and Aurora as well as aid Rachel and all the hospice staff. Also a special thanks to visiting Angels home care worker, Bailey,

Everyone is invited to a visitation on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at Rupp Funeral Home from 2:00 to 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 23, 2021 at Rupp Funeral Home starting at 11:00 am. Burial will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park with a honor guard service.
