A native of Clay County, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Hilda Griffith Payne.
She worked as a sewing machine operator with Peachtree Products. She was a member of Little Brasstown Baptist Church. She enjoyed walking.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Quentin Clayton, who died in 1977; and two brothers, Hillard Payne and Willard Payne.
Surviving are her three sons, Jackie Clayton and wife Patricia Lovingood Clayton and David Clayton and wife Janice, all of Murphy, and Billy Clayton and wife Glenda of Blairsville; one grandson, Gary Clayton; two great-grandchildren, Jordan Clayton and Jack Clayton.
Funeral services were at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 18, at Townson Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy, with the Rev. Aud Brown officiating. Burial will be in Little Brasstown Baptist Church Cemetery at a later date.
