Fort Bend Herald, September 9, 2021:

Velma Ruth (Bratton) Carley, 89, of Richmond, Texas, passed away on September 4, 2021. She was born on May 9, 1932 in Leslie, Arkansas to Monroe and Dottie Bratton. Her hobbies included making quilt tops, cooking, traveling, and taste testing pies. She LOVED pie! Velma was a loving, caring individual, always eager to give a "Velma" hug to everyone. Most times one hug just wasn't enough. She was a faithful, long-time member of Word of God Fellowship where she was a member of the Christian Women's Circle and the Joy Club. She loved her church and was never shy about inviting everyone she met to come visit. She wanted them to hear her daughter sing and to hear Pastor David preach. This loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend will be sorely missed.

In addition to her parents, Velma is preceded in death by her loving husband, Owen Gene Carley; and siblings, Wilma Rogers, Ulis Bratton, Agnes Bratton, Benni Bratton, and Nellie Bratton; plus six half-sisters and one half-brother.

Survivors include her daughter, Regena "Gena" Ricklefsen and her husband, Terry L. Ricklefsen; grandson, Ryan Ricklefsen (wife, Chastity); great-grandchildren, Abigail, Aubrey, Rylan, James, and Andrew; sister, Leah Shows; along with many beloved nieces and nephews; as well as many dear friends. Ms. Velma always lovingly proclaimed she had a second daughter in the lovely and kind Miss Laura Sexton, who is a long-time faithful friend of the family.

The family would also like to gratefully recognize Mrs. Beverly Faye Wilson for the love, kindness, and attention given to Mrs. Velma for the past two years. God bless you, Beverly!

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday, September 10, 2021, at Word of God Fellowship Church in Richmond. On Saturday, September 11, 2021, at the church beginning at 11:30 am, friends and family are invited to a celebration of life luncheon with all of Velma's favorites from BullCreek Cafe plus lots of pie. Following this time of fellowship and remembrance, the funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor David Shows officiating. Burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg.
