Katherine Louise Bailey, 97, of Havana passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 12:34 a.m. with her family present. She was born in Kilbourne, Illinois on April 28, 1924 to William Columbus and Julia Else (Blessman) Gillmore. She married Melvin Lee Bailey in Havana on December 10, 1955. He preceded her in death on April 22, 2005.
Katherine is survived by her children: Judy Ladd of Havana, Eric Allard of Sherman, Annette Bassett of Shelbyville, Rodney Lee Bailey of Summum, Daran Lynn Bailey, Dara Dawn Bailey, Kimberly Shawn (Terry Bennett), Valerie Jean Stutsman, and Bradley Scott Bailey, all of Havana, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two daughters, Phyllis Smith of Springfield and Jeanette Antoncew of Havana.
Katherine was a homemaker and loved all of her children, always taking care of everyone else before herself. She will be remembered as a strong, caring, selfless woman.
Cremation rites have been accorded and a graveside service will be held at a later date at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana.
