Charles Lewis Taylor is my paternal grandfather. Born at Rensselaer, Jasper County, Indiana, on October 8 1965, he came with his parents to Fayette County, Iowa in March 1866. He is the son of Dr. Silas Soule and Esther Ann (Came) Taylor. His father died in 1868 and his mother died in 1872. He was raised by Job and Eliza Ellen (Cave) Ashby, who are also buried in this cemetery.
He married Agnes Ida (Woolsey) Whitbeck, a widow with a small child, on March 2, 1901. They parented: Alma Etta (Bloom), Leroy Silas (Eunice Ehorn), Phyllis Viola, Charles Lyle (Arlene Klukas), (and twins) Leota Loretta, and Leola Lorena Taylor. He worked most of his life for the CGW (Chicago Great Western) Railway which has a large switch yard in Oelwein.
