Sarah was born on December 6, 1941, in rural Roby, the daughter of William and Ruth Pugh Wilson. She married John Albert Hampton, Sr. on June 9, 1989, in Springfield.
Sarah attended Edinburgh High School and stayed at home to raise her family. She enjoyed sewing, crafting, flowers, and cooking, but most of all spending time with her husband, family, grandchildren and friends at cookouts, birthday parties, sporting events, graduations, and family holiday dinners.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Ray Lee Melton, Sr.; stepdaughter, Julie Berner; grandsons, Chad Melton, Stephen Berner, and Braden Cochran; brothers, Harold, Don, Bill, and Larry Wilson; an infant sister; and beloved dogs, Ollie and Seebee.
She is survived by her husband, John of Springfield; her children, Brenda (Chris) David and Danner (Tanya) Fabian of Springfield; Race (Kathy) Melton and Tandy Melton of Lima; Pacer (Tracy) Melton of Taylorville; and Ray (Shannon) Melton of Edinburg; step children, Ricky and Edward Melton, John Jr. (Barb) Hampton, Janice (Bob) Estes, Sr., Joyce Bushnell, Jolene (Paul) Ealey, Jennifer (Wendell) Rhodes, James (Angie) Hampton of Springfield and Joan (Bill) Goodman of Tunnel, GA; 32 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends; and her beloved dogs, Molly and Angel who were always by her side and followed her everywhere.
Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
