Kenneth W. Rains, 85, of Lafayette, IN, passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Franciscan Health East.

He was born on June 22, 1936 in New Castle, IN to the late Robert and Rebecca (Main) Rains.

Kenneth graduated from Bedford High School Class of 1954 and Indiana University in 1970 with a degree in journalism.

He was a veteran of the Army, serving from 1957-1960.

On June 20, 1965, he married Phyllis A. Junkin in Vincennes, IN and she survives.

Ken worked as a news reporter for Lafayette Journal & Courier for 21 years, retiring in 1991.

He was a member of Brady Lane Church of Christ, where he served as Elder and many other committees; Tippecanoe Civil War Roundtable, Recipient of The Sagamore of the Wabash award in 1991.

Ken was an avid IU fan, enjoyed the time he had with his family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him.

Surviving are his wife; two children; four brothers; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Kenneth was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Rains; and stepsister, Lisa Rains.

Visitation will be from 2-3 PM on Thursday, September 2, 2021. Service will follow at 3 PM with J. William Overbay officiating. Interment will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette, IN.
