"Gretchen O. Salisbury, 84, died Wednesday evening, Sept. 22, 1993, at the family residence in Muncie. She was born on Nov. 2, 1908, in Craigville, the daughter of Hilliard and Bessie Houck Bell. She was married for 51 years to Charles B. Salisbury. He preceded in death in 1987.

She graduated from Lancaster Center High School in 1926 and received her teaching certificate from Ball State Teachers College. She had been a teacher for 26 years. She taught at Lancaster Center in Wells County for nine years and Dunkirk and Redkey for a total of 17 years. She had lived most of her life in Dunkirk and Portland and moved to Muncie in 1973. She was a member of Gethsemane United Methodist Church, the national, state and local Retired Teachers Associations, Order of Eastern Star,'Teresa Chapter, Albany, and Phi Beta Psi Sorority.

Surviving, are: two daughters, Sharyl (David) Lyon, Muncie; Sandra (Charles) Myers, Attica; four grandchildren, Lori (Brad) Nissalke, Oak Harbor, Wash.; Lisa (Scott) Abel, Muncie; Jeff (Julie) Myers, Shelbyville; Julie (Brian) Ross, Houston, Texas; and one great-granddaughter, Emily Myers, Shelbyville.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Gethsemane United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Maish officiating. Burial was in Elm Grove Cemetery in Bluffton." – Fountain County Neighbor, September 28, 1993
