Harry E. Haff, 87, passed away peacefully Nov. 22, 2007, while visiting his son-in-law's family in Delaware. He was born and raised in Adams, Mass. He graduated from the Coast Guard Academy in 1942 and proudly served for 22 years, retiring with the rank of commander. One of his assignments was commanding officer of the United States Coast Guard Cutter McCulloch. After receiving a master's degree at Penn State, he pursued a career as a professor at Massasoit Community College in Massachusetts for about 20 years. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary.
He is survived by his brother, Bob Haff of Endwell, N.Y. Left to cherish his memory are five wonderful children: Richard Haff of Raleigh, N.C., June Kates of Virginia Beach, Marilyn Brand of Boulder, Colo., Bill Haff of Easton, Mass., Jim Haff of Ripon, Calif.; and their spouses, as well as numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
The funeral will be held in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Military honors will be rendered at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery at 1:15 p.m. Family and friends may gather at the home of Jennifer Lilly following the cemetery service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to a charity of one's choice. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
