"Minnetonka resident Dalton Kleeberger, 16, died as a result of head injuries sustained in an ATV (all terrain vehicle) accident near Thunder Lake south of Remer in Cass County. According to information from the Cass County Sheriff's Department, Dalton was a passenger on the ATV, which somehow veered off a roadway. He was thrown from the ATV and struck a tree causing his death around 11 p.m. July 3, 2007. He was not wearing a helmet.

This was not the first time tragedy has struck the boy's family. Sheryl Derby and her husband Daryl were Dalton's grandparents by birth, but adopted the boy after his mother, 33-year-old Tamara Quenemoen, was killed in a car accident in 2001. Derby said Dalton was 9 when his mother died and said that it was an extremely difficult mourning period for him. But more recently he was a happy-go-lucky teenager. "This last year was wonderful for him. He was so happy," Derby said.

Dalton was interested in having fun with his friends, fishing and playing Frisbee golf. He recently completed his sophomore year at Hopkins High School and would have been a junior this fall.

Funeral services for Dalton were held at Gethesmane Lutheran Church in Hopkins."
