A communications professional, Martin first worked as a newscaster for WNYC and as an account executive at Young & Rubicam. In 1962, he and his wife created Communications Planners, Inc., whose clients included the 1968 Humphrey campaign, Barneys, the Writers Guild of America East, the Amalgamated Union's Local 340, the Nassau County Medical Society, Co-Op City, and the Suffolk County Plumbing Industry.
Martin was also a community activist. In 1965, he and his wife co-founded COPAY, a drug treatment program. He also served as president of the Great Neck Library Board, as a board member of Temple Emanuel, and president of NYU's Washington Square College Alumni Association.
He was survived by his wife, two sons and their wives, and five grandchildren.
