George was a farmer. They arrived in Portland, Oregon by "Emigrant Train" (Union Pacific) on May 28, 1887, with 3 of her 10 children born to her and George Washington McCulloch in Clinton County Missouri: John W(20), Cecil(15) and Julia(11).They had brought their own food and bedding on the train and cooked in the baggage car. After crossing the Willamette River by ferry, they traveled by narrow gauge railroad to Dallas, where they stayed with oldest child Mary Angeline Shewey. Mary, husband William Madison Shewey and daughter Cora had moved to Oregon in 1880.
After living with the Sheweys for a month, they rented a house near Dixie (Rickreall) from Josh McDaniel.
Their children:
• Mary Angeline b. 1850 d. 1896
• James
• Clara Merilla
• John Williams McCulloch b. 1866, served as assistant US attorney general in Portland
• Cecil McCulloch "Derr" b. 1871 d. 1960, Cecil was a very talented artist
• Julia Xantippi McCulloch "Smith"
They remained near Dixie until the summer of 1888, when Nancy purchased a house in Monmouth and moved her family there. Both John and Julia subsequently attended and graduated from Oregon Normal School, John W in 1889 and Julia in 1895.
According to an email in 2003 to family relative David Blanchard, there is a story about George Washington McCulloch and the son who was going to kill him. There are some letters written between the McCulloch's and the Lingenfelders that are in the historical library at the University of Oregon that depict this similar story.
Nancy sold her house in Monmouth in 1900 and she and the girls moved to Salem, living on Front street and then on Oak street in the home Cecil had purchased in March 1902.
Olive McCulloch (wife of John W) and son Paul were visiting at the McCulloch home on July 10th, 1902. Letitia Shewey was staying there at the time and "Aunt Olive" asked her to get a comb for Paul's hair. Letitia(10) went into the bedroom and found Nancy Jane (her grandmother) dead.
George died September 15th, 1890 and is buried at Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Trimble, Missouri. Nancy died July 10th, 1902 and is buried at Dallas Cemetery in Dallas, Oregon with her daughter and grandson.

Your bio states in part: he married Nancy Jane Gist, who was born November 18th, 1833 in Missouri to parents Hiram (b. 1800) Gist and Sarah (b. 1807) Gist.
I think that you have the wrong parents for Nancy. Nancy and George were married in 1849 according to MO marriage records. In 1850, Hiram and Sarah were living in Jasper County MO with their children, including 17 YO Nancy.
I think it is more likely that George's wife was the daughter of Joseph Gist and Permelia (Murphy) Gist. Permelia was living in Clinton Co MO in 1850 as were George and Nancy according to census records. George and Nancy were living next door to Jefferson Fry, Nancy's sister Cecil's in-laws.
