John E. Rich, 80, of Lock Haven, passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at the Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland OR. Born on April 4, 1941, in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late John E. and Jane M. (Feehrer) Rich. On May 20, 1989, in Lock Haven, he married Ute C. Böhm, who survives at home.

John was a 1959 graduate of Lock Haven High School and a 1963 graduate of Dickinson College earning his BS in Physics. While at Dickinson College, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant through the ROTC.

Following college, John enlisted with the United States Army. He served during the Vietnam and Dessert Storm conflicts, while on active duty and then as a reservist. He earned the rank of Colonel prior to his honorable discharge after 30 years of service.

John received the Basic Missileman Badge, Commendation Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Meritorious Service Medal as the Lieutenant Colonel in the Infantry Reserves. He was the commander of the 314th Infantry and the Commandant at the 2090 USARF School in Harrisburg. He was proud of his military career and was honored to serve this great country.

John worked at the family business, Woolrich Woolen Mills, Inc as a Manager of Facilities, Environmental Development, and Business Insurance. He retired after 43 years of service.

John attended the East Main St. United Methodist Church in Lock Haven, where he served as Past Chairman of the Stewardship and Finance Committee. He always had a special place in his heart for the Woolrich United Methodist Church where he grew up and was baptized. He was the Past Chairperson of Finance Committee and Administrative Board at the Woolrich Church.

John was a Past Distinguished President of the Lock Haven Kiwanis, member of the Lock Haven Elks Lodge 182, Past Vice President of the Millbrook Playhouse Board, Past Vice Chairman of the Clinton County Solid Waste Authority Board, and Past President of the Richwood Hunting Camp.

John enjoyed downhill skiing, hunting, reading, going out for dinner with the "gang", having breakfast with the Thursday morning breakfast club, and traveling. He and Ute traveled all over the world and loved the trips they made with the "Millbrook Vacationers". He treasured the time he spent with his family and friends, especially his brother in-law, Andy, at their cottage on the St. Lawrence River at the 1000 Islands.

John was preceded in death by one brother, David F. Rich.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021, from 10-11:30am at the Woolrich Community United Methodist Church, 1080 Park Ave, Woolrich, PA. Funeral will be at 11:30am at the church with Rev. Laura King officiating. Following the funeral, military honors will be accorded by the Jersey Shore Honor Guard. John will be laid to rest privately at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Millbrook Playhouse, 258 Country Club Lane, Mill Hall, PA 17751, to the Mission Central, 5 Pleasant View Dr, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050, or to the Clinton County SPCA, 33 Mill Hill Rd, Lock Haven, PA 17745.
