George Richard Barrett, cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, 15 August 2021. He was 90 years old. His death was sudden, and his loss is deeply mourned by his family.

Born at home during the Great Depression in Jennings, Missouri on 27 April 1931, George built a life centered on family, love, friendship, and faith. He was the second youngest of ten children in an Irish Catholic family and endured the loss of his father at only ten years of age. As a child he attended Corpus Christi Catholic School and went on to graduate from De Andreis High School and St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas. Following University, George joined the Navy, and served his country with honor on the USS Saratoga. He enjoyed a lengthy career in computer science and retired as a Systems Analyst from the United States Postal Service.

He was a longtime parishioner of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Kirkwood, Missouri, and more recently, of St. Justin the Martyr in Crestwood. George was also a passionate tennis enthusiast, who very reluctantly had to finally give up the game at the age of 85. He played frequently with his wife, his many friends, and inspired his daughter to play from her earliest steps. George belonged formerly to Westchester Tennis Club, and more recently to Vetta Sports Club.

Learning was also a great love of George's, and he spent hours each day reading and lost in educational pursuit. He had a beautifully gifted mind and was a former member of MENSA. His home housed a curated collection of hundreds of books, and he cherished each and every one. George also loved to play Chess, was an accomplished Bridge player and fostered a tremendous love for music of all kinds.

Most of all, George was a lovingly devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His selflessness and kindness came naturally to him, and his loyalty to family and his gentle nature served as an inspiration to his loved ones. He was a true patriarch of his family, and his passing is felt as a devastating loss.

George is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Dr. Noel Hackmann Barrett; daughter Maria Therese Barrett; grandchildren Medea Calisse Boudreaux, Barrett Blanca Fasano, Giovanni Raphael Fasano, Giuliana Viviana Fasano, and Massimo Edoardo Fasano; sister Sarah (Sal) Caruso; numerous treasured nieces and nephews; special family members Susan Fasano Schutt, Nicholas Michael Fasano, and Cecilia Shelby Fasano; and best friend of over 65 years, Robert Evans. He is preceded in death by his parents Leo and Anna Gantner Barrett; brothers Thomas (Catherine), Frank (Kathryn), Leo, and Charles Barrett; and sisters Kathleen (Joseph) Hejmej, Juliana Barrett, Teresa (Jesse) Miley, as well as a sister lost in infancy.
