Funeral Services for the late J. R. Stewart were held from the Reliance Baptist church at 3 o`clock on Monday afternoon with Rev. J. H. Landes, pastor of the College Avenue Baptist church, officiating, assisted by Rev. R. L. Brown of College Station. Special music was furnished by a quartet composed of Mrs. Sam Bullock, Britton Risinger, Eloy Saxon and John Stockton, accompanied by Mrs. H. T. Hall. The hymns sung were favorites of the deceased and were "Rock of Ages," "In the Sweet Bye and Bye," and "What a Friend We HAve in Jesus." Interment was made in the Reliance cemetery under the direction of Hillier Funeral Home. Mr. Stewart was born in December 12th, 1859, at Gay Hill in Washington county and at the time of his death was 85 years, 2 months and 29 days old. He came to Brazos county as young man and had made his home here continuously. He was a member of the Baptist church, of which he was a deacon. On May 31st, 1891, he was married to Miss Mary Lena Seale of the Cedar Creek community and to this union was born six children, all of whom are living. Three daughters, Mrs. Belle Smith, Mrs. J. W. Walker of Bryan, and Mrs. Cleo Warren of College Station; three sons, M.A. and M. C. Stewart of Albany and John Stewart who lives at the family home with his mother. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Pallbearers were L.D. Smith, Reagan W. Warren, Russell Lloyd, Zelph Jones and Jim Carter, all life long friends of the family.
