Obituary - Basking Ridge - Howard M. Jefferson, 76, of 10 Cedar St., died yesterday in the Madison Nursing Home after a long illness. The husband of Isabelle R. Douglas Jefferson, he was a retired banker. Mr. Jefferson was born in Nova Scotia and later moved to New York City where he attended New York University. He later taught banking at that institution. Mr. Jefferson was decorated by the governments of Columbia, Ecuador and Chile for work done with the Financial Mission, which assisted in improving banking methods in South America. Mr. Jefferson was associated with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York City. He resigned from the Reconstruction Finance Corporation in 1948 after 12 years of service. Besides his widow, Mr. Jefferson is survived by a son, Stewart E. of Pelham Manor, N.Y.; a daughter, Miss Margaret Jefferson, at home, director of The Gill School, Bernardsville; a brother, William, of Elizabeth, and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. in St. Bernard's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Edward N. Maxwell will officiate. Interment is private.
