Daniel is shown in 1900 census as living at the County Poor Farm. That record gives his DOB as March 1812.

Married Sarah E. Hazelwood May 4 1847 in Harrisonville, Cass Co MO. She died 1872 and is buried in Kepner Cemetery, Henry Co.
Their children:
-Margaret J. (1846-1898 M1: Stanley, M2: Smith);
-Mary (1950-1975 - died in Colorado);
-Randolph (1852-1941 buried in Kepner Cem.);
-Henry Meredith "Babe" (1855-1889, buried in Kepner Cem.);
-Sarah Elizabeth "Lizzie" (1858-1900 M: Gregg, bur. Parker Gregg, Cass Co MO);
-Lutisha "Tina" (1859-1942 Unmarried. Tina was listed in the Poor Farm with Daniel, her father, in 1900. She was still living there for the 1910, 1920 and 1930 census. The County Home closed before her death in 1941, when she was living with a family in Clinton. She is buried in Kepner cemetery.)

Since there are no census records between 1880 and 1900, it is unknown when Daniel (and daughter Lutisha) were committed to the Poor Farm, as it was called at that time. It is hoped they were not there very long before the 1900 census.

Only his son Randolph and daughter Lutisha "Tina" (who was in the County Home with him) survived Daniel. It is unknown why Randolph didn't have Daniel buried in Kepner cemetery with Daniel's wife and son, and where Randolph and Lutisha were to be - and were - buried.

1870 Bogard, Henry MO: WELLES Daniels /54/KY, Sarah/40/KY, Mary//21, Randolph/20, Meredith/15, Sarah/13, Letitia/10. In 1880 DANIEL WELLS (KYx3) is in Urich, Henry Co. MO, a widower, boarder and laborer in the David and Martha Richardson home. Next door are Thomas and Rebecca Wells, also from KY. Thomas may be a nephew, but have found no documented connection.

1900 Fields Creek, Henry MO, County Alms House: DANIEL Wells/88 is one of 47 residents, shown as Ward, occupation "Pauper". He is from KY, parents from TN, he is shown as married.

Another descendent shows Daniel buried in "Walnut Grove" cemetery, Henry Co. There is no known cemetery by that name. The Poor Farm graveyard was in a grove of trees, which might have been Walnut. When the county farm land was sold to adjacent farmer, he plowed up the graveyard; any stones that might have been erected were destroyed.
Almost all of the Poor Farm/County Home records were lost during the transfer of records from the Court House to the Henry Co. museum. A search of the currently available records contained no information about Daniel or Lutisha.

Arranged for a male to male descendent of Daniel's to participate in the Wells DNA project, no match found as of Jan 2011.

This submitter viewed the marriage record of Daniel and Sarah, which was on a torn piece of paper and kept in the Cass Co. historical section of the library.

Lore is that Daniel came to MO. from KY, may have had a marriage in KY. Wife Sarah Hazelwood reportedly was of Indian heritage, not proved.

If anyone has information re Daniel, his birthplace and/or parents, please send SAC.
