Muriel Kauffman was the wife of Ewing Marion Kauffman, founder of Marion Laboratories, Inc., a Kansas City-based pharmaceutical manufacturing firm. In 1989, Marion merged with Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals to form Marion Merrell Dow, Inc., where Mr. Kauffman served as chairman emeritus until his death in 1993. He was also the owner of the Kansas City Royals baseball team, and the stadium in Kansas City was renamed Kauffman Stadium, about a month before his death.
