Funeral services for the late Mrs. Wm. P. Elliott were held Monday afternoon from Battin Chapel, with the Rev. D. Young in charge with the Rev. D.I. Erlandson assisting. Interment was made in the Glenwood cemetery.

Mary Jane Battin, daughter of Herbert and Rachel Battin, was born January 31st, 1850, in the state of Indiana. When a child she moved with her parents to Iowa, settling on a farm near Ogden, in Boone county close to where the Battin chapel now stands.

On August 26, 1866, she was married to William P. Elliott. To them were born nine children, four of whom are now living -- Edwin A., living in Chico, Cal., Cyrus J. at Redwood Falls, Minnesota, Esther V., who has been residing with and caring for her mother, and Bessie E. Dow, who lives in Los Angeles, Cal. Besides these she is survived by nineteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She spent the most of her married life together with her husband and family near Ogden, Iowa, moving to Minnesota in the year 1900. They resided there until 1919 when they moved to Long Beach, Calif., where Mrs. Elliott has since made her home, her husband William P. Elliott having died in 1922. Mrs. Elliott passed away at her home at 265 Kenneber Ave., on Sunday morning, August 10th, 1930, at the age of eighty years.

Throughout her life she was an earnest Christian worker, having joined the United Brethren church early in life. It was in the early days of that church that she made her house the home of all circuit and visiting ministers connected with Battin chapel, a little church she, together with her husband and father, did much toward building and continuing. Upon moving to Minnesota she and her family united with the Methodist church in which she has been a faithful member ever since.

She was always a devoted and loving mother, endeavoring to instill worthy Christian ideals in the life of every child. She will be remembered with loving thoughts by her family and neighbors and by numerous friends acquired through the many years of a long and useful life.

Prior to the arrival of the body in Ogden, funeral services were held at the undertaker's parlors in Long Beach, California, the Rev. Harker of Grace M.E. Church officiating. The body arrived in Ogden, Ia., Monday morning, Aug. 18th. At 2 p.m. the funeral services were held from Battin Chapel. Rev. D. Young was in charge, assisted by the Rev. D.I. Erlandson.

Mrs. W. Morgan, Mrs. Italph Swain, Ronald Swain and Clyde Hall sang "The City Foursquare," "When My Soul Reaches Home" and a solo, "Face to Face," was sung by Ralph Swain.

The pallbearers were D.O. Clark, John Morovetz, John Clark, Oliver Porter, Ralph Swain and Bert Elliott.
