Alice Eugenia "Jean" Bowers, 84, passed away peacefully at her longtime residence in Shady Shores, TX on Friday, July 30, 2021. Jean was born at home in Clyde, Callahan County, Texas on February 19, 1937 and was the first of seven children of Dalton Aston "D.A." Bowers and Theo Docia "Dochie" (Duggins). She was named after her maternal grandmother Alice Melvina (McQueen) "Mama" Duggins and her paternal grandmother Eunice Eugenia (Warren) Bowers. She became a first time big sister in 1939 when her best buddy, Dalton Lloyd "Sonny" Bowers was born, followed by Robert Allen (1943), Glenda Sue (1945), Rita Joy (1948), Talmage Ray (1950), and Terry Steve (1953).

Jean would spend most of her childhood in or near Coleman County, TX and never too far from her beloved Bead Mountain and would often share her stories and happy memories as a Kid growing up there with great clarity and much laughter. Her family then moved on the San Angelo, TX where she attended Lake View High School and played on the Chieftain basketball team from "54-"56 of which she was captain from "55-"56, as well as being a member of the Pow Wow staff from "55-"56. She always looked to her Class of 1957 reunions and reminiscing with former schoolmates!

After high school graduation and a few jobs that did not show promise for a future, Jean learned that there was a future in being an x-ray technician. She learned of the Radiology School at St. Paul Hospital in Dallas, Tx. and made application for admission to the school and was accepted as a student into that program. After completing the two year program at St. Paul and having made the highest test score of her x-ray technician class, she then set out to get a job in a radiology setting. Dr. Robert Lockwood, a radiologist in Denton, Tx was looking for another office technician. She went for an interview with Dr. Lockwood and Ginger Brewer his xray technician at his office and got the job. Jean and Ginger worked for 12 yrs together and remained friends even after Jean decided to give up x-ray work and become a school teacher. Jean then applied to Texas Woman's University and was accepted into the university to earn a Bachelor Degree in Physical Education. Jean and Ginger remained friend thereafter.

Sunset High School in South Dallas, Dallas, Tx was a great teaching experience for Jean as she developed a great rapport with all her students, esp. the girls volley ball team, they were good enough to be a championship team. Jean got teacher of the award her first year at Sunset High School.

Outside of teaching Jean had many hobbies like a vegetable garden to raise okay, snap peas, and onions, etc. and she was an outstanding cook and loved to grill outside. She liked having plants like geraniums, ferns and roses to beautify her porch and manicured yard. Jean was very handy with a saw, hammer and nails to make things things like a bird house and she enjoyed painting what she made as well. The Bowers family was very musical as Jean, her Mother and brother Robert played guitars, Sonny played the banjo and her Father played the fiddle. When the family got together for family reunions usually after the supper meal everyone gathered around to play an instrument, sing along songs and have a grand ole time visiting with each other. Jean enjoyed bicycling with friends on the week-end, etc. on trips that was 20 to 30 miles one way and one time they bicycled 100 miles to Waco, Tx. At one time she had her own boat and loved getting out on the water but also enjoyed camping out and fishing with friends and family. As a teacher having 30 days vacation, she and friends would hit the road to travel throughout all parts of the country local and afar to see the world. Jean loved animals and through the years had cats and dogs but not at the same time.

When retirement time came in 2003, her last school was Calhoun Middle School in Denton, Tx. Goodbye's were hard as everyone, students and faulty alike loved Jean Bowers.

She is survived by her siblings Sonny, Glenda, Rita, Ray, Terry and partner Lois Padon of 23 years. Siblings and all her nieces and nephews will miss her tremendously. And all of Lois's siblings will cherish the memories of her visits to them in North Carolina.

She is preceded in death by her mother, father and brother Robert.

A celebration of life is pending at this time for approximately 6 months in north Texas due to Covid.
